Why are some counties' records not online and how do I contact them?

 

Some counties in Ireland do not have an IFHF county genealogy centre or do not offer a genealogy service at the present time.  The IFHF is working towards the goal of having all centres online and offering a full genealogy service. Some counties which are not online at present will be joining the Online Research Service in the coming months. 

 

Carlow

County Carlow does not currently offer a research service.

 

 

Cork

A large part of Co. Cork, south and west, is not covered by any IFHF centre.  Cork City records are being computerized by the Cork Ancestral Project which does not currently undertake research or make its records available online. Clare 

Co. Clare offers a commissoned research service only. For further information please contact clareheritage@eircom.net

 

Dublin

There are two IFHF centres in Co. Dublin, Dublin North and Dublin South.  Please check the sources list for these centres to see which parishes they have completed.  There is no IFHF centre covering the area of Dublin City.  Please contact the Archdiocese to see if it can be of any assistance to you - http://www.dublindiocese.ie

 

 

Kerry

There is no genealogy service in operation in Co. Kerry.  The diocese of Kerry includes County Kerry, except Kilmurrily and part of County Cork.  The bishop is the Most Rev. The the local studies department of Kerry County Library holds the Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith's Valuation Books, 1901 and 1911 Census, 1926/27 registers of electors, the O'Kiefe, Coshe Mang volumes, all Kerry newspapers dating back to 1820s on microfilm as well as an extensive collection of books/journals/periodicals/files which are all useful for family history research.  Contact the Local Studies Department, Kerry County Library, Moyderwell. Laois 

Co. Laois has not yet made its records available online. For further information please contact ohas@iol.ie

 

Monaghan

There is no IFHF centre in Co. Monaghan. Please contact Mr. Theo McMahon, 6 Tully, Monaghan, Co. Monaghan.

 

Offaly

Co. Offaly has not yet made its records available online. For further information please contact ohas@iol.ie

 

Waterford

We have no date as yet for when the records of Waterford may be online. For further information please contact mnoc@iol.ie

 

Wexford

The Wexford centre is currently closed and no research is being carried out. The Wexford data will be added to the online service in time. There are microfilmed copies of parish registers for Co. Wexford in the National Library of Ireland, Kildare St., Dublin. You could also contact the parish directly and they may look up information for you; it depends on the parish and whether they have the resources.

Civil births, deaths and marriages are available at the General Register Office, Dublin. Please see www.groireland.ie for more information. Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864.
